Simpsons Road Rage Mods

People say:

I slagged the Xbox version of Road Rage a couple issues ago, not for its blatant plagiarism of Crazy Taxi, but rather for its many gameplay issues. I kept my expectations low going into the GameCube version this month and saved myself the disappointment. This is the exact same game as its Xbox and PS2 counterparts, which means you'll still have to deal with irritating load times and janky collision detection problems (it's easy to get your car stuck on objects and buildings). What's worse is that RR still has very little in the way of depth. Like CT, the object is to make some dough by driving the denizens of Springfield around town. The faster you truck, the bigger the buck. But man, did these cats miss the point of CT or what? RR doesn't reward you for weaving through traffic, pulling off jumps or causing near-misses. In fact, there isn't much technique here at all. Leave out these moments of skill and all you've got is a very bland rip-off starring the cast of our most beloved animated series. Sorry Simpsons fans, this is not the game it could have been.

Simpsons Road Rage Mods

Hello and welcome to today’s blog on Stephen Niven – Mainly about video games! In this blog post I am going to be blogging about The Simpsons Hit & Run Mods, and my thoughts on these user-generated creations.

Before I start talking about these mods however, I should at least talk about what the original game is about. The Simpsons Hit & Run is a 2003 action adventure game that is based upon the popular animated cartoon ‘The Simpsons’. It was developed by Radical Entertainment and published by Vivendi Universal Games, and was released for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube and Microsoft Windows. The game focuses around the Simpson family, who witness many strange incidents that occur in Springfield; such as security cameras and black vans. Please note however that the mods are only available in the PC version.

Burns is up to his greedy ways again, purchasing the Springfield Transit Corporation and jacking up the fares on public transportation. Refusing to shell out for the high rates.

I first started to hear about these mods for the game a few years back now, and when I saw them (videos) in action, they looked really cool and intriguing – so I thought it would be a good idea to go out and buy the PC version of Hit & Run. I then tried to put some of these mods into the game, and when I did, I failed! (I wasn’t really clever at this at the time). I left it for a few years and that was that really. Then in the summer of this year, I went back to it, and had more success with it this time! It depends on what the mod is, but most of them that I have tried out are quite fun and spice the game up. Some include new missions and others include different character skins, and they make me feel like the game is brand new again. Also, I would like to quickly say that I haven’t experienced any problems in downloading these mods (such as viruses).

The game is one of the first PlayStation 2 games that I ever owned, so I’ve always had a nostalgia effect to it. It’s also one of my favourite games ever as well! Anyway, the best and most favourite mods that I have used to this day are the Donut Mod (by Donut Team) and Road Rage Returns (also by Donut Team). The first mod is currently at version 3.2.3, and is a ‘re-imagining of the original Simpsons Hit & Run story’. It currently features the first three levels, with brand new missions, cars and collectibles. The latter mod is currently at version 1.0.2, and brings The Simpsons Road Rage into Hit & Run. It includes 11 missions and all of the characters and cars that were in the original game from 2001. Speaking of Donut Team – they are a fantastic fan based community that have always brought out great new content for the game, and are also great with their followers as well.

So in conclusion, the modifications for The Simpsons Hit & Run are very cool, and gives the game an extra added value to it. As I said earlier, because of the game being one of my most favourite games ever, it makes the mods even more enjoyable! They make the game feel like new again, and makes it feel different to the original release. They aren’t too difficult to put into the game either! Finally, one other thing that I would like to mention at the end, is that you need to download a program called Lucas’ Simpsons Hit & Mod Launcher; as it is a tool which you need as it allows you to run ‘any well-crafted Simpsons: Hit & Run mod’.
